Where Silence Screams
By: Demitra Lynn
Smoke chews the sky,
tongues of fire licking the bones of yesterday.
Footsteps sink into earth too red,
too heavy with names no one will speak.
Metal sings where voices used to,
a lullaby of ruin,
a hymn of things undone.
Somewhere, a child grips a hollow doll,
dust settling where laughter once lived.
Somewhere, a mother counts ghosts.
The air does not breathe here.
Only remembers.
