Rights and Roses

by | Nov 30, 2024 | Poetry

rose petals stripped from flowered buds, red blood
gold strands of pollen plucked from graves of dust
sun-battled broken thorns in june scraped mud
dried husks, fall-decayed fragments of bloomed lust

bees ripped out leaves of dirt and love, fire-
flies gleam in the rain as they drop and die
blue summer heat burned through the fern filled mire
black thunder struck mooned lightning in night’s sky

we gave our tears and ourselves to be seen
as garden jewels, we are forgotten, bruised
stripped away from our bodies and minds, we clawed clean
to regain that right, but we are denied

forgotten shimmers of light and madness
our history drenched in never ended darkness
